Airbnb Bans ALL Indoor Hidden Cameras Starting April 30, 2026
In its most sweeping privacy update ever, Airbnb announced a complete ban on hidden cameras inside rental properties — including in common areas where they were previously permitted. Hosts found violating the policy face permanent account termination.
Airbnb's updated Responsible Hosting Policy, effective April 30, 2026, prohibits all interior surveillance cameras regardless of disclosure. Previously, hosts could mount cameras in common areas (living rooms, hallways) if disclosed in the listing. That exception is now eliminated.
The policy change follows a record 35,000 hidden camera reports in 2025, up 180% from 2023. Several high-profile cases — including a California host convicted of felony voyeurism — pushed the company to act. Exterior cameras (doorbell, driveway, yard) remain permitted with proper disclosure.
